Keeper Halibut Winter Texas Rig in Santa Barbara w/ Robert Bailey and John Matsubu

This was my first time fishing with Robert Bailey. He's a gentleman and an absolute pleasure to be around. He's also a die-hard fisherman. My kinda guy!

So after Robert promised up and down to keep my spot a secret, and provided collateral and a blood sample, I brought him to one of my favorite spots. Shhhhhh!!! It was slow going at first, with a bite here and there. Robert missed a couple hooksets. I took a look at his bait. He had this tiny worm hook, like maybe a 2/0, on a big plastic with no ribs. So I said, please let me set you up! I rigged Robert up with a 5" rib bait, texas rig, with one of my home made prototype Battlestar XLS Weighted Swimbait Hooks. By the end of the day he was seeing the appeal of these hooks! John Matsubu joined us along the way. He just happened to give this beach a try for the first time and found me there when he arrived. As the incoming tide squeezed us off the beach, with a keeper halibut in hand and many more catches under our belts to count as memories, we enjoyed a long walk back to the cars. It was a fun and memorable fishing session.

If you recognize the spot, please don’t mention it in the comments. Keep it in a private message between you and your fishing buddies. This is our opportunity to create balance and develop friendships based on trust and respect.
